Aloe is one of my favorite go to herbs to soothe irritated skin. When you squeeze the leaf of an aloe plant, a gel like substance is released. Not only is aloe gel effective for sunburns but it can also be used on minor cuts and other types of burns.
Aloe appears to increase blood flow to wounded areas, which help speed healing. It also contains compounds that may relieve pain, reduce inflammation and prevent infection.
The freshest and most potent aloe gel is using the gel from a live plant. If purchasing an aloe product commercially, make sure it is pure aloe gel and the first ingredient in the product says aloe gel.
