Summer has finally arrived. It’s important to spend time in the sun to get a healthy dose of vitamin D, but you want to be careful not to overdo it. I recommend always wearing sunscreen on the face and neck to prevent wrinkles while allowing the rest of the body to be exposed to the sun for 15-20 minutes and then apply sunscreen to prevent over exposure to the sun.
There are so many sunscreen choices, it’s daunting. Unfortunately, many sunscreens contain toxic ingredients or endocrine disrupting chemicals, such as oxybenzone. Also the chemicals in sunscreen are known to destroy coral reefs in the ocean, another reason to avoid them.
Luckily, there are so many healthy alternatives. I recommend sunscreens containing zinc oxide. My favorite is Kabana Green Screen which is made from non-nano zinc oxide, which means the particles are not made so small. Nano-sized products are so small, and able to penetrate into the body and remain in the body, possibly causing health risks.
Some other brands to check out are Badger Mineral Sunscreen and Think Baby Safe Sunscreen.
